Does pressure-treated wood need to be painted, stained, or waterproofed?

Yes, sealing a deck will reduce the severity of the woods reaction to wet and dry weather cycles. A coating should be applied to minimize the effects of water damage. Treated wood should be cleaned and re-sealed yearly to maintain optimum appearance. Unprotected treated lumber will change color, split, crack, and warp as a reaction to the changing weather.

How long should I wait before I seal or stain my deck?

A water repellent should be applied when water droplets sprinkled on the wood are quickly absorbed. This usually occurs within days or weeks of installation. Repeat once a year.
